One of the best experiences I’ve had is being a TMS technician for Achieve TMS. Through this experience, I have been able to be part of each patient’s process in overcoming depression and have made good friends. It is a blessing in disguise when you are given the opportunity to help those who are seeking happiness.
I live by a saying that “If you are not smiling or laughing, then you are not breathing”, meaning that happiness is the key to enjoying life and spreading kindness from one person to another.
During my time with Achieve TMS, I have the pleasure of meeting amazing people; in the time span of 6 weeks for each patient’s treatment we develop great relationships. Day in and out, I look forward to each appointment because I have the opportunity to bring improvement and happiness into the lives of my friends. During their treatments, they give me their trust and allow themselves to open up to me about their lives and families. I enjoy coming back to work on Monday’s because I look forward to hearing about my patient’s weekend experiences and adventures. I love knowing that they are enjoying the hobbies and interests again. Bringing them back to their joy is the best part about my job, and I love it!
Similar to the first day of school, some of us can be shy and engaging in conversation can be difficult, especially if we are dealing with depression. I have had experiences with patients where sparking a conversation can be difficult. But, after just a couple of treatments, I’ve noticed that my patients are the ones initiating conversations and, over time, smiling and laughter become part of our daily sessions.
As part of our treatment process, I work with patients on developing goals that they want to push for during and after treatment and I try to help them accomplish those goals. It’s a rewarding experience seeing patients improve treatment after treatment, working towards their goals. Together, we build trust, valuable connections and most importantly great relationships.
