San Marcos: A Rapidly Growing City in San Diego County

San Marcos ranks as one of the fastest-growing cities in San Diego County, thanks in part to its commitment to economic development. The city is quickly becoming a top choice for entrepreneurs in the high-tech, medical, and recreation-oriented industries to set up headquarters. San Marcos also features an award-winning school district, and it provides easy access to some of the top colleges and universities in California.

Along with its devotion to economic expansion, San Marcos boasts a variety of family-friendly attractions. The city is only minutes from many exceptional beaches, parks, and lakes, making it simple for adults and kids to spend time together outdoors. In addition, San Marcos is home to a 71-par golf course and many other attractions.

What Happens During San Marcos TMS Treatment?

TMS daily treatment takes place at our Rancho Bernardo office. Each treatment session requires approximately 20 minutes, during which a patient is seated in a comfortable chair.

During each treatment session, a patient wears a helmet containing a magnetic coil placed on their head, near the left temple. The coil is used to gently send magnetic pulses to the patient’s brain, which help stimulate neural activity in sections of the brain that are underactive in people with depression. When the magnetic pulses stimulate neurons in these parts of the brain, they may help the patient reduce their depression symptoms and enhance their quality of life.

Following a San Marcos TMS therapy session, a patient can leave our Rancho Bernardo office and immediately resume their normal daily activities. The side effects associated with TMS are limited; some patients may experience minor discomfort near the treatment site that usually disappears on its own shortly after treatment. Other patients report no discomfort at all.

How Is a TMS Treatment Plan Developed and Implemented?

A TMS treatment plan is individualized to each patient, and usually involves treatment sessions conducted five days a week for six weeks.

Patients who are considering TMS may be able to combine TMS treatment sessions with therapy and/or medication.

TMS may also be used as an alternative to other forms of treatment if/when those options have not delivered symptom relief. For instance, if a patient previously used medication to help cope with depressive symptoms but found it caused nausea, dry mouth, sleep disturbances, or other difficult side effects, TMS can offer a drug-free alternative.

Is TMS Treatment Right for You?

The best way to manage depressive symptoms depends on the patient, and TMS may be a viable option that works in combination with or in lieu of other forms of therapy. To determine if TMS therapy may be beneficial, a patient can meet with the team at our Rancho Bernardo office.

Our Rancho Bernardo staff is committed to patient success, and we want to help patients manage and overcome depression symptoms. Our medical clinicians conduct an evaluation to find out if a patient qualifies for TMS. Next, we develop a custom TMS therapy plan for the patient, ensuring that the patient is comfortable with the plan. When we begin TMS, a technician and physician offer comprehensive support to the patient at all stages of treatment.
