What to Expect During TMS Treatment in Ridgefield

Patients pursuing depression treatment in Ridgefield, will first attend an evaluation with a clinician at our Jantzen Beach office to determine if they qualify for TMS.

During an evaluation, our clinicians evaluate a patient’s depression symptoms and history. They find out if a patient has previously received psychotherapy, medication, and/or other depression therapies, learn why a patient is considering TMS therapy in Ridgefield, and determine if the treatment may help them reduce or eliminate their depression symptoms.

TMS is recommended if the patient appears to be a good candidate for treatment. Our clinicians may recommend the therapy be completed on its own or in combination with the patient’s existing medication or therapy routine.

Along with providing our clinicians with an opportunity to assess a patient, an evaluation allows the patient to ask questions about TMS and the benefits of this depression therapy. The evaluationn helps patients become more informed about  TMS and know what to expect from each treatment session.

A custom TMS treatment program is developed for each patient. The program accounts for the patient’s health and wellbeing and depression symptoms.

TMS therapy requires a patient to visit our Jantzen Beach office for treatment sessions, which are held five days a week for six weeks. Each session takes approximately 20 minutes. Afterward, the patient can work, drive home, and resume other typical activities with no downtime.

During TMS therapy, a magnetic coil is placed on a patient’s head, near the left temple. The coil sends magnetic pulses to the brain that stimulate neural activity.

TMS treatment is noninvasive, and the magnetic pulses used during therapy are gently delivered. The therapy does not require the use of medication, anesthesia, or electrical shocks.

Following TMS therapy, patients may experience mild scalp discomfort or no discomfort at all. TMS does not result in nausea, vomiting, and other side effects commonly associated with medications used to treat symptoms of depression.
