TMS Treatment in North Portland: What You Need to Know

TMS therapy is tailored to each patient. During the initial visit to our Jantzen Beach office,  our clinicians learn about the patient and their history with depression, and provide a custom treatment program.

A TMS program involves five treatment sessions per week and is conducted over the course of six weeks at our Jantzen Beach office. Each session lasts 20 minutes, and patients can drive and immediately resume their normal activities after treatment.

During a TMS session, a magnetic coil is placed on the patient’s head, near the left temple. The coil provides stimulation to the patient’s brain and activates neurons in underactive regions of the brain that are responsible for mood. This neural activation may help minimize the patient’s depression symptoms.

Patients may report mild scalp discomfort or no discomfort at all after a treatment session. TMS does not cause any of the side effects associated with medication and/or electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) for depression, such as changes in sleep or eating habits, nausea, weight gain, or fatigue.

Patient results are monitored over the course of treatment. The results of TMS vary depending on the patient, but most patients report symptomatic improvement. In one study, over 40% of patients reported no further depression symptoms following TMS therapy, and 70% of patients reported a significant reduction in depressive symptoms.

Why Do Patients Choose Achieve TMS for Depression Therapy in North Portland?

Achieve TMS offers BrainsWay Deep TMS (dTMS) treatment at our Jantzen Beach office to help patients alleviate their depression symptoms. BrainsWay dTMS is a noninvasive depression therapy, and it has been shown to help improve depression symptoms.

In studies conducted in clinical practice settings, 20 BrainsWay dTMS sessions led to remission rates higher than those observed in randomized controlled clinical trials. Among patients who received 30 BrainsWay TMS sessions in these settings, 75% reported a significant response after treatment, and 50% reported full remission of depression symptoms after therapy.

BrainsWay dTMS is administered by Achieve TMS’ team of medical clinicians and technicians. Our clinicians care about each patient’s health, well-being, and safety, and perform TMS accordingly. They track the patient’s progress throughout therapy and will modify a treatment program as needed.

The technicians at Achieve TMS possess technical and interpersonal skills that make them valuable contributors to the success of a patient’s therapy program. Our technicians must complete an internal training and certification program, and they know how to administer TMSe for maximum effectiveness. They also collaborate with our clinicians and the patient to optimize the results of a treatment program on an ongoing basis.

We are available to discuss TMS therapy at our Jantzen Beach office and help prospective patients decide if TMS is an appropriate treatment for them. To learn more or to schedule a complementary consultation, please contact us online, or call or text us today at 877-285-0822.
